The Ebro Valley is midway between Valencia and Barcelona and is a truly beautiful area with majestic mountain scenery and a deceptively good climate - mostly warm and sunny. Average temperatures range from 12°C in April to 20°C in June and September, and 23°C in July. In October, temperatures still average 15°C. Although it can be quite cold at night in the winter months, the winters are usually described as being mild. Average rainfall is 20 inches, the wettest months being April and October.
The majestic Ebro River flows across the 'neck' of Spain, from the north west and out to the Mediterranean Sea on the east coast. Anyone who knows anything about fishing will have heard of the River Ebro - famous for its huge catfish and many other species. The Ebro Valley floor is dotted with little villages which have remained virtually unchanged for hundreds of years and yet the main town of Tortosa has every amenity as well as being a fascinating cultural centre. Village restaurants are superb, providing wonderful meals of Ebro River fish, as well as some excellent local wine at very low cost.
Most of the property in the Ebro Valley has land, and whilst some of it is ready to move into, there is also an opportunity to buy an old farmhouse or village property requiring modernisation or complete restoration. Some land is well-tended and in fruit production, and some is overgrown, but all of it is within a few minutes of Tortosa and yet is peaceful and unspoilt. Many Spanish properties, whilst still being close to Tortosa are in the foothills of the mountains with glorious views.
From Tortosa it is only 20 minutes across the Ebro Valley Delta to the sea where the superb sandy beach stretches for 80 km. Here the Ebro River is at its widest and the marshy Delta provides a haven for wildlife. It is also an important rice-growing region. On the Delta Coast are several towns with yacht clubs and water sports and some excellent fish restaurants, but it is a far cry from the crowded and popular 'Costas'.
There are three golf courses near the Ebro Valley and the Ebro Valley Delta, approx 1 hr. from Tortosa, the most notable being at San Jordi.
Peaceful and beautiful, yet not too remote, the Ebro Valley and the Ebro Valley Delta are certainly the places to find a bargain!
The River Ebro (Ebre) rises in the Cantabrian Mountains near the North coast of Spain and runs parallel to the French border in an easterly direction, and flows out into the Mediterranean Sea, south of Barcelona.
The property we have for sale in the Ebro Valley is very close to the Mediterranean coast - just a few miles inland from the River Ebro Delta. We also have some properties for sale on the Ebro River Delta Coast.
